Professional organizations and Web sites for Alaska writers

Lit Site Alaska
Run by the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Alaska Literary Consortium, and funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, this site is described by organizers as a “gathering place for families, communities and teachers.” It’s also a good place to meet some key members of the Alaska writing community.

Alaska Center for the Book
This nonprofit group offers an online database of readers’ and writers’ groups around Alaska, and hosts the state’s largest writing conference (nearly) every spring, Writing Rendezvous.

Alaska Press Women
Founded to benefit female writers and journalists, Alaska Press Women now includes both women and men who work as professional communicators, journalists, writers, editors, teachers, photographers, freelancers, marketers and public relations specialists.

Alaska Press Club
This nonprofit professional association has been around for more than 50 years and is open to print and broadcast journalists. The club hosts a conference in Anchorage every spring, during which it also announces contest awards.
